Stratford’s history is deeply connected to aviation, and State Representative Kaitlyn Shake joined a bipartisan group of Stratford legislators in supporting an effort to preserve that history while expanding educational opportunities for the future.
During the 2026 legislative session, Shake co-sponsored legislation seeking state bond funding for renovations to the Connecticut Air and Space Center in Stratford.
The proposed funding would support improvements intended to expand the museum’s educational and community use.
The Connecticut Air and Space Center preserves an important part of Stratford’s identity. Our community played a significant role in American aviation history, from the work of Igor Sikorsky to the aircraft and engines produced at the former Stratford Army Engine Plant.
Preserving that history gives future generations an opportunity to understand the people, technology, and industries that helped shape both Stratford and modern aviation.
The legislation also demonstrates the value of Stratford’s delegation working together.
The proposal was introduced by Republican State Senator Jason Perillo and co-sponsored in the House by Democrats Kaitlyn Shake and Joe Gresko along with Republican Ben McGorty.
Not every issue affecting Stratford needs to be partisan.
When there is an opportunity to support a local institution, preserve our history, strengthen educational opportunities, and bring additional investment to our community, our elected officials should be willing to work together.
The Stratford Democratic Town Committee appreciates Representative Shake’s support for the Connecticut Air and Space Center and her willingness to join colleagues across the aisle in advocating for an institution that belongs to the entire Stratford community.
Stratford has an extraordinary aviation story.
We should make sure future generations have the opportunity to discover it.
