Carolann Reid and Mandy Kilmartin unseat Republican incumbents in seats Republicans held for decades; three of Stratford’s five state legislators will be women

STRATFORD, Conn. — Every state legislator representing Stratford will be a Democrat when the General Assembly convenes in January, after Democratic candidates won all five state legislative seats that include the town in the Nov. 3 election, according to unofficial results from the Connecticut Secretary of the State.

Carolann Reid defeated Republican Sen. Jason Perillo in the 21st Senate District, 21,407 votes to 20,676. Mandy Kilmartin defeated Republican Rep. Ben McGorty in the 122nd House District, 5,649 votes to 5,142. Republicans had held both seats for decades.

Sen. Herron Gaston of the 23rd Senate District, Rep. Kaitlyn Shake of the 120th House District and Rep. Joe Gresko of the 121st House District were re-elected. With Reid, Shake and Kilmartin, women will make up a majority of Stratford’s delegation.

Judge of Probate Max Rosenberg was also re-elected, appearing on both the Democratic and Republican ballot lines.

The results are unofficial until certified by the Secretary of the State. See all six results, or the latest numbers on the Secretary of the State’s results site (external website).
