About Michael Fiorello

A lifelong educator and advocate, Michael Fiorello brings over three decades of classroom experience and union leadership to his run for Stratford’s Board of Education. A proud product of Stratford’s public schools – Second Hill Lane, Flood, and Bunnell (Class of 1982) – he returned to his hometown in 2008 with a renewed commitment to the schools that helped shape him.

After earning a B.A. in English from the University of Connecticut (1986) and an M.S. in Education from the University of Bridgeport (1988), Mike began a long teaching career, first in Bridgeport Public Schools and then at Stratford High School, where he taught English/Language Arts for nearly 25 years. His dedication extended far beyond the classroom, mentoring early-career educators and serving as President of the Stratford Education Association from 2014 to 2025. In this role, he worked closely with five different Superintendents and numerous Board members, leading negotiations and helping resolve district challenges.

Mike’s community involvement has long reflected a passion for equity and inclusion. He served on the board of AIDS Project New Haven and co-chaired GLSEN Connecticut, advocating for safe, affirming schools for LGBTQ+ youth. His leadership within the teachers’ union began in 2010, serving as building rep, executive board member, and vice president before assuming the presidency.

He is running for Board of Education because he believes Stratford’s schools can once again be engines of opportunity – if we commit to supporting students and teachers alike. “Education opened doors for me, and I want to ensure today’s students have the same chance,” he says.

While he and his husband do not have children of their own, Mike is actively involved in the lives of his niece and nephew, both current Stratford public school students.
