About Jackie Seawright
A longtime resident of Stratford and a passionate advocate for equity, Jackie Seawright is stepping forward to bring bold, compassionate leadership to Town Council District 9. With a background in human services, real estate, nonprofit leadership, and faith-based community organizing, she offers a grounded, people-centered vision for Stratford’s future.
After a successful 22-year career in real estate sales and marketing, Jackie transitioned into purpose-driven work rooted in justice and community impact at Congregations Organized for a New Connecticut (CONECT). She holds a B.S. in Human Services from Albertus Magnus College and brings professional experience as an operations manager, client services leader, and director of marketing and administration.
A 15-year Stratford resident and Fairfield County native, Jackie has held numerous volunteer leadership roles within the community. She served as PTA President at Center School and as a Deacon and core leader of CARE (Connecting Adults/Adolescents to Resources for Emotional Well-Being) at Mount Aery Baptist Church. These experiences sparked a deep passion for connecting individuals to meaningful resources that foster a sense of support and belonging—both within and beyond the church community. Jackie also provided public testimony in support of a housing bill during the most recent legislative session. Additionally, she helped organize CONECT’s participation in prominent regional events, including Bridgeport’s annual Jazz Festival and New Haven’s Black Wall Street celebration, broadening the organization’s community engagement and visibility.
Jackie’s reason for running is clear: “I’m a committed change agent who believes in working for the common good, especially for those who have been historically marginalized. In today’s political climate, it’s more important than ever to bring community voices to the table.”
Among Jackie’s proudest accomplishments:
-
Leading equity-focused organizational change, including securing foundation grants to support anti-racism training and capacity-building – demonstrating her ability to build partnerships, manage resources, and advocate for systemic change.
-
Transitioning from the private sector to values-based nonprofit leadership, gaining expertise in donor relations, grant writing, and strategic collaboration – necessary skills for the demands of public service and community investment.
-
Serving as a lifelong faith-based leader and deacon, helping shape intergenerational civic advocacy and justice work.
She and her husband Dwayne have been married for 30 years. Together they’ve raised three children – Judah, Deja, and Noah – and are proud grandparents to Lennox and Leah. As the oldest and only daughter of three siblings, Jackie carries the strength and wisdom of generations before her.
And for fun? She’s a novice DJ. “Creating playlists is my storytelling. It’s how I express emotion and connect with others through rhythm, memory, and mood.”
