About Anthony Afriyie

Anthony Afriyie is a first-generation Ghanaian American and longtime Stratford resident who grew up in District 5, attending Nichols Elementary, Wooster Middle, and Stratford High School. The son of immigrants who migrated to the United States in the 1990s, he has a deep appreciation for the opportunities and challenges that shape Stratford’s neighborhoods. His commitment to service has been a constant – from earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree to serving in AmeriCorps NCCC and becoming a Segal Fellow.

Currently in their first term as Town Councilor for District 5, Anthony has worked to reimagine Stratford’s growth and ensure it is balanced with environmental conservation and sustainability. He was appointed to the Connecticut Equity and Environmental Justice Advisory Committee, where he helps advance fair policies that protect both residents and natural resources.

Anthony has also held roles in the federal and state government, championing issues around youth opportunity, workforce development, and equitable public investment. He is committed to advancing civic engagement and understands the challenges of today’s hyper partisanship, its impact on our younger generation, and the importance of informed, empowering leadership.

For Anthony, service to community is more than a campaign slogan—it is a way of life. “I want District 5 residents to know that I’m here to listen, collaborate, and lead with integrity,” he says. “We can grow Stratford in a way that makes it vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive for generations to come.”
