“I'm running to represent and expose the concerns and issues that affect the 3rd district. It’s time for this district’s voice to be heard.” - Wali Kadeem

About Wali:

My start in community activism began with the threat of the closing of Lordship school when my son attended in 2001. Having children anchors a person’s ties to their community because it elicits a passionate response when their lives are affected. This is what happened to me at that time and caused me to run for the position back then. Since then I have been an active community leader participating in various causes in the town.

  • South End Day 2003
  • Served on the South End Community Board
  • Relocation of the animal shelter
  • Served 6 years on the Youth and Family Advisory Board
  • Assisted with the design of the George Force Courts located on Woodend Road
  • Fighting for the restoration of the Shakespeare Theater
  • Supported the construction of the Victoria Soto School
  • Obtained signatures to overturn the sale of the WPCA Water Treatment Plant
  • Served on the Underage Drinking and Smoking Committee through Stratford Community Services
  • Volunteered as a referee for the Johnson House Basketball Fundraiser
  • Volunteered as a referee for the Special Olympics
  • Financially supported the Stratford Regal Cinemas Summer Program
  • Worked as a site director for Stratford Recreation Department

Awards & Recognitions

  • “MEDAL Award” by the Youth and Family Advisory Board in 2010 and 2012
  • “52 Blacks in the Community Slate Award” by WYBC 94.3 Radio Station in 2011
  • A student from St. Marks school won 3rd place for the South End Community Center Annual Black History Month Contest in 2011. This student chose to base her essay on Wali and his hard work and dedication to the youth in Stratford.

Currently

  • Serves on the Stratford Recreation Board
